LEADERSHIP TEAM

ANTHONY R. GARDNER

I would like to thank the Board of Directors of Alabama Regional Medical Services for the opportunity to serve the community as its Chief Executive Officer.  I am a native of Birmingham and graduated from A.H. Parker High School in 1992.  Upon my high school graduation, I attended Talladega College and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting in 1995.  Soon, thereafter, I began my professional career as a staff accountant with a regional CPA firm, and for the next five years, I assisted or lead audit teams on audit engagements of other Federally Qualified Health Centers from the Northeast, South, and Midwest regions of the country.

After working for the CPA firm, I was hired as the Chief Financial Officer of Quality of Life Health Services, Inc., one of the most successful Federally Qualified Health Centers in the state of Alabama, if not the entire country.  While at Quality of Life, I attended Jacksonville State University where I obtained my Master’s Degree in Public Administration.  In continuing my professional growth, in 2013, I became the Chief Financial Officer of Daughters of Charity Services in New Orleans.  During my tenure, this FQHC nearly doubled in size; expanding from five facilities to nine health care clinics.

Birmingham is comparable, in population, to the city of New Orleans; however, Alabama Regional Medical Services’ service area consists of Blount, Jefferson, St. Clair, and Shelby counties, which has approximately 1,007,357 citizens; approximately 12% of this population are uninsured.

My goal as the CEO of Alabama Regional Medical Services is to increase access to primary health care to the uninsured, in our service area; specifically, the homeless population.  We will attain this goal by eliminating barriers to healthcare and improving customer service in each of our current five clinics.  I will also be reaching out to other safety net constituents, in our communities, to restore positive relationships and trust.
Sincerely,

Chief Executive Officer
